NIMK Distributed
NIMk distributed is a joined project by Isabel Lucena, Florian Conradi, Michelle Christensen and Jan van Bruggen visualizing the distributive activities of media art by the Netherlands Media Art Institute.
The Netherlands Media Art Institute is a Media Art distributor connected to the most relevant museums galleries and festivals around the world. For their annual exhibition they asked us to visualizing their distributive activities of the last 4 years.
We decided to make a "distribution festival". We took all the data they gave us and made a simple graph out of it that served as a distribution symbol. The graph illustrates their distribution of media art from 2004 till 2008, based on the parameters of geographical location and the number of institutions distributed to within each country.
This graph was applied to t-shirts which were distributed to the visitors at an NIMk open house event, hence distributing their distribution.
During this event we distributed buttons and t-shirts with the distribution graph inside the building as well as in the street, our T-shirt becoming a huge success with the visitors! Of each person using these t-shirts we took pictures in front of our "distribution festival" wall that was made out of a pattern of the logos of the various associations NIMK distributes to. Besides uploading these pictures in the internet ourselves that that same moment, we also asked our guests to upload their pictures in facebook, myspace and their social networks, making the NIMK distribution activities more visible all together.
