Sandberg Masters1

These Posters were made for the gradutation of the Sandberg Institute Design students and present them as the New Masters of the Rietveld. The Sandberg Institute is a small family of designers that often see the world trough different angles. I wanted to illustrate what each Master was about so I created contextual messages for each one of them that refer to their their work and/or their personality. The weird POP Posters invite the audience to come and see our weird Masters.

Ogul Oz- Ogul work is about street, clandestine actions. During his time at the Sandberg Institute he sometimes strugled with the spelling in the english language. Ironicly he’s name was constatly miss spelled in our Institute. In the end he wanted he’s name visible and correctly spelled. The Line “sweet dreams with the correct spelling of Ogul Oz” can be interperted both ways.

Amir Admoni - Amir was the last to write and deliver his thesis, it was a painfull thing for him to do and I had no more time to make the publication. So for his poster I used a quote that he loves from the movie “The Shining”. Where Jack Nicholson literaly goes crazy trying to write a book and all he can write is “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

Ruben Van Leer - Ruben made a documentary and a website about Jesus, a profet that lives in Amsterdam and claims that he knows all, he knows everything. The project was incredible and in the end you could go to the website www.Ikbenalles.nl and ask Jesus a question. Jesus would answer by webcam.

Dima Stefanova - Dima came to the Netherlands from Bulgaria without speaking dutch or english. Today she is a sucessfull webdesigner working in Amsterdam, speaking dutch, married and with a young son called Nemo that we all know. In her thesis she speaks about finding herself, about her journey traveling in the world, traveling in the web, navigation and intuition. Finding Dima is a reference to the movie “Finding Nemo”, is also what Dima achieved coming to the Netherlands.

Jessy Riedijk - For her project Save the Redheads Jessy is looking to save the redhaired people, aparently an indangered kind. So she asks for readhead donnors to give some genes, hair and freckles so that the red gene never disapears from the face of the earth. Offcourse the reference to “looking for a donor” is alarmist...

Teun Castelein - Teun’s Graduation project was a huge instalation in the facade of our building at the Sandberg Institute. Basicaly he sold the facade for ardverts. The project, called Artvertising, was in the border of art and business. The idea was simple, the execution was a year of sales and business-talks that involved countless Corporate Companies. In the end Teun had marked his presence at the Sandberg Institute.

Hendrik Jan Grevink - Hendrik Jan’s thesis and work is mostly about copyright. I used the line from the T-shirt of the band “Frankie goes to Hollywood” witch originaly says “Frankie says Relax”. This T-shirt is not only one of the most famous T-shirts in Pop culture but its also one of the most copyed by artists.

Coralie Vogelaar - Coralie likes references and quotes.
In a book she made for the Sandberg Institute she wrote by hand in the first page “The majority sucks, Join the minority! Coralie Vogelaar”. This Book was about the Network of the Sandberg.
Therefor I took the quote of Coralie and wrote “Join Coralie and the Minority, everybody will be there”.
